Our family's story

Welcome to my Underwear Affair Personal Page.

Many of you know that last year my daughter, Taryn, created a team for The Underwear Affair, in honour of her grandmother, 'Lala'. She said that the BC Cancer Foundation's fundraising event was lighthearted and spirited, just like the way 'Lala' was fighting her cancer 'below the waist'.

My Mom was diagnosed with a type of colorectal cancer six years ago. Finding out the news was devastating to all of us at our annual family reunion, but I still have an image of my Mom dancing, in her lime green boots that same week! Love of family and spirit, trumps all... because at her five year check up, all was clear. Until this past Christmas, when she found out about another type of cancer below the waist, which she is fighting now.

My daughter has gone on to work for the Underwear Affair this year. I'm blessed to have great friends, many who have been touched by these cancers in some way; and some are on this year's team with me.

The thing about cancers down there, is that they're often not talked about or left too long, because of the 'taboo' of speaking up. But, statistics show that 48% of cancers diagnosed will be below the waist. Let's bring awareness to down-thereness!
